The Importance of Osteopathy in Training and Rehabilitation
Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy and a complementary line of treatment for various conditions. The focus of osteopathic therapies is on altering the muscle resting tone to favourably impact the musculoskeletal, nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems of the body. This is done by passively moving joints, massaging muscles and if needed, altering the mobility of a joint through manipulation. The underlying philosophy of this alternative therapy is to incorporate a wholesome healing approach, utilising the body’s natural healing abilities and not just treating the symptoms, but rather finding the cause.

Trigger Point Therapy/Inhibition
Trigger Point Therapy is a focused manual therapeutic technique designed to reduce pain and discomfort and elevate muscle functionality in specific areas of the body. As the name suggests, this therapy works by targeting trigger points in your muscles, which are points prone to irritability in order to treat inflamed muscle spindles and reduce tonicity by stimulating the muscles of the Golgi tendon organ.
Articulation
Articulation is a therapeutic technique to relieve joint stiffness or inflammation. It is a technique used to passively mobilise joints, relax hypertonic muscles, restore movement, and bring about pain relief through osteoarthritic joint changes.
Muscle Energy Technique
The Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a therapy technique used to correct muscle length by using gentle isometric contractions. In this form of manual therapy, our osteopaths will use your ‘muscle’s own energy’ to relax the muscles. Autogenic inhibition and reciprocal inhibition form the basis of MET.

What to Expect from our Chronic Pain Specialists
Upon entering our private wellness facility, one of our osteopaths will be ready to greet you. In the initial appointment, they will understand the reason for your visit followed by a series of questions about your family and medical history.
Following consent, you may be required to remove certain clothing for better assessment and treatment. Post these examinations and in a comfortable manner, we will conduct orthopaedic testing to identify sore muscles and joints.
This comprehensive assessment and understanding lets our osteopaths identify up to three diagnoses and suitable corresponding treatments. After an in depth explanation, we talk you through the next steps and give you the freedom to book further appointments as per your schedule.
Client satisfaction and well-being are the top priorities at The Somatic Clinic. Our ethos is to be completely transparent from start to finish, offering you a scientific explanation and personalised treatment to help you achieve optimal health.
